an 8-year-old boy is fighting for his life-- after falling into a canal in orlando. that boy remains in critical condition right now. this happened just after 3-30 yesterday afternoon-- behind "riverside elementary school"-- near pembrook drive and forest city road. rescuers say the child was with some other boys at the time. deputies believe he may have been trying to cross the canal on a concrete walkway when he fell in. they say the other boys managed to get help-- and the boy was rushed to "florida hospital" in orlando. the incident is currently under investigation. today-- "riverside elementary" will have counselors on hand-- to help students deal with the situation. a volusia county father accused of shooting his son is supposed to make his first court appearance today. deputies say 58 year old gary edmonson shot 34 year old, gary edmonson junior, yesterday. edmonson junior is in critical condition. the shooting happened at their home on holly boulevard, near deland. edmonson junior tells deputies he and his dad were

detectives say his dad admitted to shooting his son after the two "chest bumped." also in volusia county-- daytona beach police make an arrest in a deadly shooting--that happened last night. officers say 27- year-old rayshad mincey is in now in custody-- after turning himself in. investigators believe he got into an argument with 25-year-old jarrod swinton-- and shot swinton in the chest. swinton died at "halifax hospital." officers say the suspect got into a car and drove away -- before crashing into a concrete wall on oak street-- and running away. mincey is charged with first-degree r morning-- treating a toddler who fell out of a ormond beach police say it happened yesterday granada boulevard. they think a woman went inside a store, and left her three year old alone in her blazer. the blazer shifted into reverse, and started moving. the child fell from the s-u-v, and was

paramedics flew the child to halifax hospital. investigators are still looking into what happened. this morning-- we are waiting to learn exactly when spacex will try to launch its falcon nine rocket. we know they hope to do it sometime friday. the company scrubbed last night's attempt on the cape-- because of high winds. that was the fourth delay for this rocket-- which is carrying a european satellite. meanwhile-- astronaut scott kelly is back on earth for the first time in nearly a year. he touched around 11-30 last night.... after a long journey international space station. kelly and a russian astronaut touched down in kazakhstan last night... completing their 3- and-a-half hour ride home. the pair spent 340 straight days in space... circling the world more than 5- thousand times. kelly says you never quite get used to. astronaut mark

"keep in mind, no candidate has a better chance of beating hillary clinton in november than john kasich." there are dozens of more contests to go--including florida's primary... which is on march 15th. a news alert now -- a virginia cop is laid to rest... after being gunned down during her first day on the job. hundreds of people turned-out to honor the officer--who has ties to central florida. officers lined the :jesterday in woodbridge, virginia -- to say their final goodbyes to officer ashley guindon. guindon was responding to a domestic violence call last saturday.... when she was shot

now in the brevard county jail. this story tops our morning rush. a judge gave 73- year-old thomas glidewell a 15- thousand dollar bond on tuesday. police say he was driving on alpine lane in titusville last thursday when he hit the boy. witnesses say he stopped-- asked if he should call 911 --and left. then he came back -- and told police he heard a bang-- but did not know he hit the boy. that boy is back home this morning. a palm bay officer is on administrative leave after shooting and killing a man. police say they got a 911 call tuesday, about a man who was threatening to shoot three people working construction next door. when officers got to his home on mariposa drive, they say he came out with a gun. an officer shot and killed the 39-year- old. he has not been identified.

in tallahassee-- legislation designed to reform alimony in the state of florida.. is moving forward in the senate. under the legislation-- judges would have a new formula to use when deciding on the alimony payments after divorce. the new formula considers the length of the marriage, as well as a couple's gross income. but critics say -- some women would suffer. the alimony bill is now ready to be senate. a similar measure is being debated in the house. on the business stocks looking up as we start the month of march. names the best state for retirement, fox's david asman
